Area Chart Types in Power BI

Here’s a visual side-by-side comparison of the three area chart types using sample sales data (Products A, B, C from 2018–2022):

1. Area Chart → Shows a single product’s sales trend over time.
2. Stacked Area Chart → Shows total sales and how each product contributes.
3. 100% Stacked Area Chart → Shows each product’s share (%) of total sales over time.

This way, you can quickly decide:

• Use Area Chart when you care about one trend.
• Use Stacked Area when you want totals + contribution.
• Use 100% Stacked when comparing proportions instead of absolute values.
